Euclid of Alexandria
Before we start with Euclid's division algorithm, let's dig a bit into his life. Yes a bit, as there is no much recorded history about him so
what do we know about him?
Euclid was a Greek mathematician who lived most of his life in Alexandria. We also have Euclid of Megara who was a pupil of Socrates, which is why, Euclid is also called Euclid of Alexandria to distinguish him from Euclid of Megara.
He was known for his concepts of geometry which he put together in a single, logically coherent framework in a book called
Elements, making it easy to use and easy to reference. Although best known for its geometric results, the Elements also includes number theory.
